Senior Underwriter

Position Summary

ACRES is seeking a Senior Underwriter with 5+ years of commercial underwriting experience. The primary responsibilities of the Underwriter will be to provide day-to-day financial, market and underwriting analysis of commercial real estate loans. This is an excellent opportunity to be thoroughly entrenched in a rapidly growing commercial real estate finance company.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Analyze, interpret and underwrite structured commercial real estate transactions
  • Conduct detailed financial, economic and demographic research to determine feasibility of transactions
    • Full analysis of real estate, tenant leases and financials, market, industry, competition
    • Review third-party reports (appraisals, property condition assessments, environment, insurance)
    • Review leases, contracts, other closing docs (e.g. title, survey, settlement statement)
    • Analyze sponsor, borrower and company financial documents
    • Review and summarize transaction documentation to identify key transaction risks
  • Prepare and present comprehensive loan approval package to credit committee
  • Work closely with Accounting, Legal and Asset Management/Servicing to facilitate closing process
  • Conduct comprehensive inspections of physical real-estate assets

Knowledge, Skill, and Ability Requirements

  • Financial statement analysis and a general understanding of credit and capital markets a plus
  • Thorough understanding and efficient use of Excel financial modeling and cash flow models, sensitivity tables, and discounted cash flow valuations
  • Experience in underwriting of all asset types including multifamily, industrial, office, retail, hotel, as well as land/predevelopment and construction loans
  • Strong research skills and ability to utilize various resources to thoroughly investigate markets, trends, industries
  • Exceptional interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • Highly organized self-starter, able to prioritize, multi-task and work independently with attention to detail
  • Personable and team player with experience in meeting deadlines and working in fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially in Excel and Word; Argus experience preferred
  • This position requires travel/conduct site visits

Education and Experience Preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Real Estate or other related fields
  • MBA or Masters in real estate a plus
  • Minimum 5+ years commercial real estate underwriting experience, specifically dealing with structured commercial real estate loans for all asset classes — bridge lending experience is preferred

Supervisory Responsibility:

  • Mentor and train junior staff
